Vale Cricket Club

Ewenny & Corntown Cricket Club
We are a family friendly cricket and community hub based in Corntown in the Vale of Glamorgan.
Our vision is to be recognised as a professionally run amateur cricket club and a hub for our local community.
A brief history
In 2004, Vale Cricket Club was formed by the merger of 2 local village cricket clubs; Ewenny and Corntown Cricket Club and Southerndown Cricket Club. Vale Cricket Club continued to play their first team matches at Southerndown, whilst works were carried out at Corntown to improve the square to a sufficient standard to play 1st team cricket.
Vale CC played their inaugural season in the Welsh Club Cricket Conference Division 2 from their home in Southerndown, whilst the 2nd and 3rd XI teams played out of Corntown until the 2006 season, when the 1st and 2nd XI sides made Corntown their base and the 3rd XI switched to play their matches at Southerndown.
Senior and junior level cricket continued to be played at Southerndown up until the 2010 season, where dwindling player numbers had forced the club to streamline to 2 senior sides, with the 3rd XI giving way and the maintenance of 2 grounds becoming financially unviable, Junior cricket matches switched from being played at Southerndown to Corntown and after over a century of cricket being played at Southerndown, Vale CC closed the gate on the Southerndown cricket pitch for the final time. However, cricket would soon return to Southerndown with Great Western Railway CC making Southerndown their new home shortly after.
During the 2010-2016 period, Vale CC struggled through some difficult years but in 2019 all the hard, off the field work paid off, with a resurgence in playing numbers and a ground sharing agreement struck with Wick CC to allow use of their ground for Saturday cricket, Vale CC entered a 3rd XI to play league cricket for the first time in almost a decade.
Vale CC went on to form a Women's and Girl's section that has seen incredible growth over the past few years, from a single Women's side playing softball cricket, to fielding girl's sides from U9 to U13 level, as well as senior soft and hardball cricket sides competing regularly in league cricket.

2019
The Vale Cricket Club Senior Leadership team has agreed an ambitious vision for the future of the club to ensure it's long term success.
Our vision is:
"To transform Vale Cricket Club into a centre of sporting excellence with cricket at the heart of the club. To be recognised as a first class sporting and leisure destination in the Vale of Glamorgan attracting and retaining sporting talent from the local community."
2018
In 2018 we welcomed a new corporate sponsor - Fine Wines Direct UK who have pledged their support for 2 years alongside our existing corporate sponsor Bridgend Ford. Without this support the club would not have to progress and grow. The club would like to say thanks to Hugh James Solicitors for their support over the last 2 years.
The club has invested in new cricket equipment including an electronic scoreboard and refurbished the club house and changing room facilities.
Our senior membership has grown allowing the club to field 3 senior XI's on several weekends and field a mid-week T20 side on a Wednesday evening.
Our junior section now boasts over 100 members (boys and girls) aged 5 to 15 and our coaching team has grown to 14 qualified coaches.
2016
The leadership team is pleased to report that we have delivered on all of our Year 1 2020 objectives.
The club house has been refurbished and the ground transformation is complete including new covers and the installation of a new twin-laned artificial net.
Our partnership with Bridgend Golf Complex together with the ongoing support of our groundsman Tim Willams has resulted in numerous positive comments about our square and outfield.
During the year we had the formal opening of the twin lane net facility, laid a new artificial wicket on the square and purchased new patio furniture .
On the field, we welcomed 10 new senior members and participated in the ECB All Stars Cricket initiative welcoming 18 new 5 to 8 year old members.
