Vale Secure Friendly win over Tondu
One of the earliest start to a season saw Vale take on Tondu ay Bryn Road in a 40 over friendly. Vale skipper Matthew Williams won the toss and elected to bat on the artifical wicket. Vale posted a highly competitive total of 235-7 thanks mainly to an excellent 3rd wicket partnership of 153 between Mark Francis (89) and JP Davies (80).
In reply Tondu fell 31 runs short finishing on 204-7 off their 40 with the wickets being evenly shared around. Darren Upham, Ollie Pike, Matthew Williams, Tom Johnson, Lucie Johnson and Martin Scott all took a wicket apeice and there was also a run out. Early season catching was also good with Matthew Williams, Martin Scott, JP Davies, Tom Johnson and Mark Francis all holding catches.
A good workout to blow the winter cobwebs away and Vale continue their pre season build up with another away friendly against Blackwood on 21 April.
Mark Francis.

Captain's Reports
Captain's reports are still alive and well and are coming in thick and fast.
Visitors to the site last year would have noticed that the Reports section has disappeared. Well fear not, they've merely been moved to incorporate the fixtures list and results (so these are all accessible on one page and you don't have to keep jumping around pages!).
If you'd like to view the reports, you can do so by navigating to the "Fixtures, Results and Reports" section of the website. From there, click on the match result and you will be taken to the Captain's report for that match.

Yep, I'm hoping to have almost ball by ball, run by run, commentary on Twitter (okay, maybe not that often, but we can at least give 20 minute updates).
So, If you happen to be crocked, on holiday, working or retired, you can still follow the Vale Cricket Club on the weekends without having to lift a finger. There's an update bar on the website or you can visit the Vale Cricket Club Twitter page for updates and to follow us.

Vale 1st XI Secures Promotion
Vale's 1st XI have secured promotion from Division 3 of the Glamorgan and Monmouthshire Cricket League by beating the Welsh Asians in Cardiff. The team is promoted despite being level on points (final league standings) and having won and lost an identical amount of games as the Welsh Asians. However, it all came down to the 2 head to head games and those games themselves proved how slim the margin between the two teams is.
Vale won the first game in Corntown by the narrowest of margins despite the Welsh Asians only requiring 4 runs from 11 overs, and this latest battle between the two sides was no disappointment to its predecessor.
Read the Captain's report here.
So, congratulations to the 1st XI for a hard fought and well deserved promotion and to everyone that helped them with this fantastic achievement by appearing for them throughout the season. Well done!
